Orbit Group
Leadership Programme

"In working with Caret we found quality people who understood our issues, listened to our needs, responded effectively and with whom we were able to develop excellent working relationships. They provided a well structured modular programme which was designed and run effectively and which met our needs in working toward being a top performing team. They brought effective insight, reflection and challenge to all members of the team not allowing us to settle for anything less than excellence and pushing ourselves hard."

Paul Tennant, Chief Executive, Orbit Group

The Issue

In 2008 Orbit made the strategic decision to commission a leadership programme that would enable them to deliver their Building Brighter Futures ambition. This is at the centre of a five year business transformation programme. Caret has worked strategically to deliver sustainable change. Key elements include:

  • Develop high performance teamworking, building on five values – honesty, respect, innovation, partnership and excellence to shape the future behaviours and culture
  • Raise leadership calibre with a programme of workshops and a coaching development programme focused on key leadership attributes
  • Move from Good to Great – using Jim Collins work and models to drive the whole organisation forward
  • Deliver practical workshops to develop shaped joint working between the Executive and the Board, and the Executive and the Senior Managers

Caret’s Solution

Caret was selected to work with Orbit to move these elements into a development and change programme. The learning elements needed to be practical and applicable – Caret’s prime focus was to deliver a programme that focused on organisation and business development.

The change programme focused on 7 key elements including workshops, one-to-one coaching sessions, 360º feedback, and Action Learning Sets focused on issues around enabling change and developing leadership styles.

The Results and Impact

Reviewing the 2009 programme in early 2010 the Executive Team described how they had significantly improved joint working, established a long term transition from Good to Great, worked hard to be a role model of the Orbit values and high performance teamwork, and developed a shared commitment to improvement.

Caret is recognised as having contributed strongly to put robust foundations in place for an ambitious business transformation programme. We are continuing to move this forward with a sharp focus on building a high performing, innovative and customer-focused organisation.
